Animal Studies Symposium at Strathclyde, May 2016

With funding from the AHRC, the University of Strathclyde is hosting an invitation-only Postgraduate Symposium titled ‘Being Interdisciplinary in Animal Studies’ on 18 and 19 May 2016. The symposium will be held in Central Glasgow over two days, just before the next British Animal Studies Network meeting (‘Smelling’, on 20 and 21 May), and will bring together academics and current postgraduates to discuss three key issues that are at the heart of the development of the field: interdisciplinarity and animal studies; teaching and animal studies; impact and animal studies. The first issue will be structured around 15 pre-circulated PGR papers and a call for those papers has just been issued.

Successful applicants will be invited to write a formal 3000-word paper which will be circulated in advance of the symposium, and discussed there. Costs of attendance at the meeting – UK travel expenses, accommodation in Glasgow – will be covered up to the value of £400. Any applicants who will be travelling from outside of the UK please note: travel expenses we can offer will cover costs of travel within the UK only: you must cover any and all international travel costs.

Further details of the event, how to apply, and what information to include in the application can be found on http://www.britishanimalstudiesnetwork.org.uk/FutureMeetings/BeingInterdisciplinary.aspx

The deadline for applications is midnight on Friday 27 November 2015.

I would be very grateful if you could circulate this information to any PGRs in the field who you think might be interested in applying to attend.

In addition: the next meeting of the British Animal Studies Network is happening in a couple of weeks. ‘Cold Blood(ed)’ is taking place at Cardiff University on 9 and 10 October. Details of the programme and a link to register can be found at http://www.britishanimalstudiesnetwork.org.uk/FutureMeetings/ColdBlooded.aspx
