“Nineteenth-Century Energies” conference to be held in Houston

The Interdisciplinary Nineteenth-Century Studies Conference will be held in Houston March 27-30, 2014. The deadline for proposals is Dec. 6, 2013. The conference is hosted by the University of Houston.

The conference theme is “Nineteenth-Century Energies,” which integrates a wide range of nineteenth-century ideas, practices, and beliefs.  To prompt your thinking further, please see our Call For Proposals.

INCS 2014 will be held at the Hotel Zaza, a stylish boutique hotel in the heart of Houston’s museum district, within walking distance of the Museum of Fine Arts, the Contemporary Arts Museum, the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, the Holoc.aust Museum, the Menil Collection, the Rothko Chapel, and several others.  In addition to elegant accommodations, the Zaza provides free car service to any destination within five miles, complimentary wi-fi, and the use of complimentary business and fitness centers.  The Zaza is also home to the Zaspa, a luxury spa with a full menu of spa services. The Hotel Zaza is easily reachable from either of Houston’s international airports: the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, a hub for United Airlines, and the William P. Hobby Airport, a hub for Southwest Airlines.

Houston is a city of gourmet appetites, and if you aren’t familiar with its restaurants, you’re in for a treat.  We have kept evenings free to allow you to sample as many different cuisines as you can.

INCS 2014 is hosted by the University of Houston, which has provided generous subsidies to keep your conference costs as low as possible.  All breakfasts and lunches, including the conference banquet luncheon, are included in the registration fee. Hotel Zaza amenities like the complimentary car service will also help keep costs in hand.

We are looking forward to fruitful interdisciplinary exchange–and to showing you the city we love!

Interdisciplinary Nineteenth-Century Studies (INCS) is an international group of scholars dedicated to interdisciplinary discussion and research.  Members are faculty and graduate students from a variety of universities in America and abroad who share a research focus on the nineteenth century.
