CENHS is proud to present “Thinking With Oil and Water,” a lecture by Professor Stephanie LeMenager. Among other work, Prof. LeMenager is the author of Living Oil: Petroleum Culture and the American Century. Learn more about her work here.
Oil and water continue to fashion a productive opposition through which to imagine the value of the Humanities’ contributions to imaginative labor, cultural critique, and social action. This talk will be about living in the Everyday Anthropocene with oil and water–with shale boomtowns, oil and coal trains, inadequately retrofitted pipelines, diminished labor rights, and dying river. What can water teach us about oil culture, and what do water and oil teach us about the value of work, life, love in the everyday Anthropocene?
